LGBT Group Bombards Street With Dance Near Pence Home

Dozens of LGBT “activists” danced and sang in front of Vice President-elect Mike Pence’s rental residence in Washington D.C. last night.

The party billed as the “Queer Dance Party at Mike Pence’s House,” began at about 6 p.m. at a Washington D.C. Metro station, where dozens of partygoers met, sang and chanted slogans as they marched to the Pence residence, all the while holding up signs and LGBT pride flags.

Joanna Pratt, a Pence neighbor, joined the dance party with her husband as the crowd grew to a couple of hundred of people, many carrying rainbow flags and dancing.

Pratt said, “We come in all shapes, sizes, colors, beliefs, and we need to respect our diversity. The LGBT community has had a real struggle to be respected and be accepted, and that’s a sad statement on our country and our culture that they’ve had that struggle.”

Pratt said that when Pence rented a home near them during the transition, neighbors welcomed the vice president-elect with a series of rainbow flags, an idea Pratt came up with herself.  She’s counted more than 300 rainbow flags in the neighborhood since.

“I’m personally hoping our rainbow flags will continue flying for four years,” Pratt said, adding that she’s seen signs crop up for Planned Parenthood and other organizations whose agendas conflict with the Trump administrations. “I hope those will all stay up as long as we are represented by an administration who does not believe in those things.”

Vice President-elect Pence and his wife, Karen, were out o dinner with Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, and his wife, at the time of the party, but there was more than the usual police presence on the scene at the Tennyson Street NW residence.

According to USA TodayPence upset the LGBT and business communities back in 2015 when he signed the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, “a law that allowed business owners to refuse certain services that conflicted with their religious beliefs.”

Pence has also stated that he believes marriage should be between a man and a woman and in 2014 Governor Pence had his chief counsel write a letter stating that Indiana would not recognize several hundred same-sex marriages that took place after a federal judge overturned Indiana’s law banning it.

LGBT rights advocates are now worried Pence may promote policies as the vice president that may be detrimental to the LGBT community.
