A town hall meeting hosted by Republican Rep. Jack Bergman in Gaylord, Michigan Thursday turned ugly from the very beginning.

During the invocation delivered by Dr. Derek Hagland, minister of the Grace Baptist Church, hecklers scattered throughout the crowd started chanting loudly, all in unison, “Separation of church and state, separation of church and state!”

Bergman, 70, who was just elected in November, reportedly won the area with 63 percent of the vote, is a retired lieutenant general in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Many of the protesters wore pink “pussyhats”, and continued to jeer and shout throughout the event.
