Twitter has been on fire Tuesday, as celebrities made a concerted effort to undermine Republican Karen Handel, the GOP nominee for Georgia’s Sixth District. The election between Handel and her Democratic opponent, Jon Ossoff, will be decided in Tuesday’s special election.

In an attempt to inform voters about the best choice for the election, Hollywood players like actress Debra Messing, comedian Sarah Silverman and writer/producer Danny Zuker turned out in favor of Ossoff. They hope to influence suburban voters in the heavily Republican Georgia district.

A classless remark came from Silverman, who wrote: “show Handel where she can stuff her bigotry.” Zuker just wants to “wipe the smirk off the Pig In Chief’s face.”

The seat Handel and Ossoff seek was vacated by former Rep. Tom Price (R-GA), a long time representative for the district. He is now the Secretary of Health and Human Services, creating a need for the battle. The election was seen as a long-shot for the Democratic candidate, but Ossoff has received plenty celebrity support in the form of donations and endorsements.

On the day of the election, many liberal celebrities have let their opinions about the election ring through the Twitterverse.
