Liberal MSNBC  “Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski has a three-book deal in the works with Weinstein Books, but she says she can’t complete the books unless Harvey Weinstein, the film producer who launched the company with his brother Bob in 2001, is gone.

Brzezinski says Harvey Weinstein, who’s been accused of multiple incidents of sexual harassment, needs to step down from his companies.

Weinstein, one of the most successful film producers in Hollywood, announced on Thursday that he’s taking a leave of absence from his movie business. This after the New York Times reported that he sexually harassed at least eight women, and settled the claims out of court.

Weinstein co-founded Miramax, then moved on to launch The Weinstein Company. He also launched  Weinstein Books as a joint venture with his movie production company.

Known for his temper and now his inappropriate behavior toward women, Weinstein says he “came of age in the 60’s and 70’s, when all the rules about behavior and workplaces were different.”

“I have since learned it’s not an excuse, in the office – or out of it. To anyone,” Weinstein said in a statement. “I realized some time ago that I needed to be a better person and my interactions with the people I work with have changed.”

Brezinski isn’t letting him off the hook with an apology – or his vows to seek help. She says he needs to resign and disappear.

In a series of  tweets, combined here, she wrote: “Harvey Weinstein needs to resign from his companies, face his sickness, and go into a long, self-imposed exile. Authors, actors, and moviemakers should not work for any Weinstein company until he resigns. Not a close call.  I have a three-book deal with Weinstein Books, through Hachette. I can’t go forward with those books unless Harvey resigns.”

As Democratic lawmakers attempt to distance themselves from Weinstein, who was a frequent contributor to the party, a third of the Weinstein Company’s all-male board resigned Friday. Remaining board members reportedly hired an outside law firm to investigate the allegations, and announced that Weinstein would take an indefinite leave of absence.

Brzezinski has a three-book deal, announced by Weinstein Books in July, which has plans to publish a revised edition of her bestseller “Knowing Your Value: Women, Money, and Getting What You’re Worth”  in spring 2018. The other two books in the series are set for fall 2018 releases.
