OHIO — Richard Keenan is the former mayor of Hubbard, Ohio. According to WRKN in Ohio, Keenan admitted on Friday to raping a 4-year old child. He now faces life in prison.
Keenan, who is a Democrat, pleaded guilty on 20 counts of sex crimes, including eight counts of rape. The shamed politician agreed to a life sentence with the eligibility of parole after ten years.
The sexual abuse began as early as 2013 when the victim was just 4 years old. According to court documents, Keenan knew the victim.
“It gives the victim some closure. Obviously, keeps this young child from having to testify and I think it’s a good result given all the facts and circumstances,” said Assistant Prosecutor Gabe Wildman.
According to reports, Keenan’s family was abrupt and emotional when the hearing concluded. They lashed out at reporters and tried to block Keenan from the cameras.
Keenan shall remain free on bond until his sentencing.
