A group of liberal parents refused to let their children attend a school skating party at Wollman Rink in Central Park, ultimately forcing the school to cancel the event.
In 1986 Donald Trump renovated the rink after it had been closed for six years, and his name is displayed on the rink’s walls.
On Thursday, the Parents Association (PA) at The Dalton School wrote a letter to the school using the excuse that it would not make “financial sense” to hold the event because there would not be many students attending.
“It would not be financially prudent,” the letter said, because of “significantly lower attendance.”
Dalton’s PA president, LaMae DeJongh, refused to comment on the issue.
“I think it is completely insane,” one Dalton parent told the New York Post. “Like him or not, it feels like a strange place for New Yorkers to protest. And sad that kids now have no skating party.”
The Post reports that a source said it was a group of “liberal moms” who told the school to call off the event.
Anderson Cooper is a well-known newscaster who attended the school. According to the Daily Mail, the school’s tuition is $40,000 a year.
