Liberal talk show host warns Trump’s staff to ‘change the locks’ on the White House (video)

On Friday, “Late Show” host Stephen Colbert continued his badgering of the Trump administration by ‘warning’ the White House staff to “change the locks” while President Trump is gone on his 17-day vacation to his private golf club in New Jersey.

Colbert ridiculed Trump for leaving on his extended vacation while the White House undergoes maintenance work, saying, “He’s earned it… is a phrase that you don’t say about Donald Trump.”

“It’s about damn time, I heard that place is a dump,” Colbert said, referencing alleged comments Trump made in comparison of the White House to his New Jersey golf club, though the president denies he ever made such comments.

Renovations are being made to the West Wing’s 27-year-old heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system. Due to the high frequency of use, the HVAC system’s usage age is over eighty years old. However, this fact didn’t deter Colbert from poking fun at the repairs to the air conditioning system, claiming it really needed work because “the previous president was simultaneously hotter and cooler.”

The Navy mess kitchen, a restaurant in the West Wing run by the U.S. Navy, the building’s lower lobby, and the information technology (IT) system will also be worked on while Trump spends his time at his gold club.

Other “generic cosmetic upgrades” will also take place, which Colbert then suggests allows ample opportunity to “change the locks” before Trump comes home.

“While they’re making improvements to the White House, can I make one suggestion?” Colbert said. “Change the locks. Do it, now’s your chance!”
