Democrats and liberal advocacy groups have intensified their calls for the resignation of a Trump administration health official who has attempted to prohibit multiple unaccompanied illegal alien minors in the custody of the U.S. from receiving abortions.

Scott Lloyd, who serves as the director of the Office of Refugee Resettlement at the Department of Health and Human Services, is being targeted by groups such as Planned Parenthood, All* Above All and NARAL Pro-Choice America, all of whom have campaigned for his resignation or firing.

“We really want to send the message that any attempts to take away abortion and deny abortion for any woman, rich or poor, whether she is an immigrant or otherwise, will be met with strong resistance, and we’re not giving up,” said Ravina Daphtary, director of state strategies for All* Above All.

The Hill reported: Daphtary’s organization and other advocacy groups delivered petitions with 250,000 signatures to HHS Thursday calling for Lloyd’s removal.

Equity Forward, which describes itself a reproductive health watchdog group, this week launched a six-figure ad campaign with digital ads running through the end of the month and a full page ad in the New York Times calling on Azar to fire Lloyd.

“Until you get rid of Scott Lloyd, you’re stuck with his baggage,” the ad said. “Secretary Azar, it is time to send Scott Lloyd — and all his baggage — packing.”

Lloyd, who previously worked as an attorney for the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic-based fraternal organization that opposes abortion, served on President Trump’s transition team and in early 2017 became the director of the Office of Refugee Resettlement, which oversees the care of unaccompanied immigrant minors.
