Sen. Lindsey Graham voiced his strong disapproval of Attorney General Jeff Sessions being a potential contender to take over as Homeland Security Secretary, as John Kelly transitions to his new role as White House Chief of Staff, replacing Reince Priebus.

Amid swirling reports that Trump is considering firing or moving Sessions to a different post after repeatedly slamming the attorney general on Twitter, it has some wondering whether he is eyeing Sessions as a possible candidate for the DHS position.

Graham tweeted out Saturday: “AG Jeff Sessions has a good ring to it,” and described his former colleague as being “Highly qualified, committed to the rule of law, tough on crime, and fiercely independent.”

Moments later, he followed it up with a second tweet that read: “DHS Secretary Jeff Sessions doesn’t sound right, doesn’t feel right. Bad idea.”

Graham also issued a warning earlier this week that if Trump fires Sessions, there will be “holy hell to pay.”

Trump recently blasted Sessions for being “beleaguered” and taking a “VERY weak position on Hillary Clinton crimes.” He also expressed his disappointment in Sessions’ decision to recuse himself from any investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

In response to Trump’s remarks, Sessions has indicated that he does not plan to leave the DOJ and will stay as long as Trump will have him. He also stated that he does not regret his decision to recuse himself.
