Fox Business’ Lou Dobbs ranted against House Speaker Paul Ryan Wednesday night, saying he has shown “unbridled hostility towards President Trump.” Dobbs called the speaker “RINO Ryan,” using the acronym for “Republican in Name Only” to describe the representative from Wisconsin.
Ryan called the idea of extending the debt ceiling due to Hurricane Harvey “ridiculous” on Wednesday, but Trump went ahead and struck a deal with congressional Democrats to do just that Wednesday night. Dobbs sees this as the president “booting” Ryan out of the way.
“The president not only took RINO Ryan to the woodshed but eliminated any need for any Republican to ever pretend again that Ryan is a real Republican in any way or that any RINO has a political future after Mr. Trump simply booted the hapless fool of a Speaker out of the way of those trying to get the nation’s business done,” Dobbs said.
Dobbs then continued to slam Ryan, saying the Democrats look calm and intelligent in comparison, and that his Congress has done “next to nothing.”
“Contrast Ryan’s inane insults, his obstinance, and subversion of President Trump to the behavior and rhetoric of Democratic leadership of late,” Dobbs observed. “They’ve calmed themselves. They’ve been far more conciliatory in their rhetoric over recent weekends and now Ryan is fully exposed to the nation.”
Democrats raced to announce the agreement before Republicans or the White House could, and they did.
“In the meeting, the president and congressional leadership agreed to pass aid for Harvey, an extension of the debt limit, and a continuing resolution, both, to December 15, all together,” Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said in a joint statement.
If the proposal gets through Congress, the package would set up an end-of-the-year cliff on both funding the government and the debt ceiling. However, Schumer and Pelosi said that “both sides have every intention of avoiding default in December and look forward to working together on the many issues before us.”
