Rachel Maddow came out with a stunning revelation on the Howard Stern Show Wednesday.
Maddow claimed that the late Fox News President Roger Ailes had once offered her a job, just to keep her off the air.
“He once told me that he wanted to hire me at Fox. And actually, this was not that long ago, within the last few years. He told me wanted to hire me at Fox and then he told me he’d never put me on the air,” Maddow stated. “He’d put me on ice,” she claimed.
“I was like, ‘So you’d pay me a full contract to not work?’” Maddow remembers asking him. “Who would not consider that?”
Maddow praised Ailes, however, and said she considered him as a mentor. “He was gracious and constructive and gave me some interesting stuff to think about. …He was generous to me. …He was a friend,” she said.
After his resignation from Fox, Maddow reportedly publicly offered to buy Ailes breakfast, but he didn’t respond.
“I believe that we are all more than the worst thing we have ever done in our lives,” she said. “At the same time I think we are accountable for everything we do in our lives. That means the good stuff and the bad stuff.”
Recently, Maddow had the most-watched cable news show on air for five nights in a row.
