Maddow warns viewers about fake news regarding new Russia reports

During the Thursday broadcast of her show, MSNBC host Rachel Maddow contended that someone is sending “carefully forged” intelligence documents to media outlets in an attempt to discredit coverage of the investigation into ties between Russia and President Trump’s campaign team.

Early Thursday, Maddow tweeted that she had a “strange exclusive” that she would reveal on her show later in the evening.

Maddow presented her theory at the beginning of her show and remarked upon it for nearly 20 minutes. In her opening monologue, she revealed that she maintains a website where people can send her tips and documents anonymously. Maddow claimed that she has received many documents and inside information from various sources.

“A few weeks ago, we got a new document from that channel and, at first glance, it was just unbelievably red-hot. If by any chance this document is real, it is so sensitive, so classified, that I cannot show it to you. I cannot show it to almost anyone,” Maddow said.

Maddow said that it was nearly impossible for someone to verify the document due to its level of classification.

“People who are in a position to recognize or authenticate this kind of document, people who have worked with things at this level of classification,” Maddow said, “they typically will refuse to look at a document like this if there’s any chance it is real, that it is real classified information that has been disclosed.”

Maddow asserted that the document she received was not a smoking gun, but a “gun still firing proverbial bullets” and that the information it contained had explosive political implications.

“We believe now that the real story we have stumbled upon here is that somebody out there is shopping carefully forged documents to try to discredit news agencies reporting on the Russian attack on our election,” Maddow said. “And specifically on the possibility that the Trump campaign coordinated with the Russians in mounting that attack.”

Maddow claimed that this incident marked the first time she has felt compelled to send a scoop up like a flare to alert other media outlets to investigate.

Critics believe that the collusion lies in fake news disseminated by the mainstream media and those who wish to destroy Trump’s presidency. Meanwhile, President Trump is eager to “Make America Great Again.”
