Man arrested after setting stranger on fire at Denny’s

A man was arrested Thursday after police said he poured gasoline on a stranger and then lit him on fire in Happy Valley, Oregon, according to ABC.

Twenty-four-year-old Deshaun Swanger, an Oregon resident, allegedly poured the flammable liquid onto a 69-year old man and then threw a burning object at him inside a Denny’s restaurant.

“We are deeply disturbed by the senseless, random act of violence that took place at our franchised-owned Happy Valley restaurant, and our thoughts and prayers are with our guest that was seriously injured,” read a statement from a Denny’s spokesperson.

Police said the victim was taken to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition.

“This just seems like a random act of violence,” said Sgt. Jason Ritter of the Clackamas County Sheriff’s office, according to a KATU report.

Swanger fled the scene, but a surveillance tape caught his image which was displayed to the public within hours of the incident.

He was caught shortly after with the local Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office tweeting, “We got him!”
