A woman and her 8-year-old daughter were shopping together in a store Saturday, May 7, when her daughter went into the restroom alone.
The woman heard her daughter screaming and went inside the bathroom to find a man carrying the unconscious girl into a stall. He had choked her with his hands, police stated.
The man, 33-year-old Reese M. Hartstirn, was restrained by people in the store until police arrived.
The child was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital. Her condition is unknown.
Hartstirn was charged with aggravated kidnapping and battery of a child. He also faces charges for trying to hit an officer. He was ordered held without bond at a hearing Monday and is due back in court May 16.
