A New Jersey man has been arrested after beating his wife to death, tossing her body in the family’s pool, and then proceeding to feast on Applebee’s takeout.
Norman Long, 51, tried to use the restaurant takeout order as a way to cover his tracks on June 15. Officers found his wife of more than 15 years, Michelle, fully clothed at the bottom of the swimming pool at their home in Woolwich Township.
Long waited until after his feast to call 911 and report that his 47-year-old wife drowned, Gloucester County Prosecutor Sean Dalton said Wednesday at a press conference.
Authorities say the information he provided did not correlate with the evidence.
The self-employed construction worker has been charged with murder, concealing evidence and obstructing the administration of law.
Allegedly, he threw out paper towels soaked with Michelle’s blood in a kitchen trash can.
Long also began to fight first respondents and had to be restrained as emergency workers performed CPR on Michelle, who died of blunt force trauma.
In addition, a small dog was found dead at the bottom of the pool.
After being taken into custody, Norman was brought to a center for psychiatric evaluation.
The suspect has not been charged with animal cruelty due to lack of evidence tying him to the dog’s death.
