Man drowns while spreading father’s ashes in Lake Superior

A man from Lake Orion, Michigan, was hurled to his death from a boat on Sunday while spreading his late father’s ashes in Lake Superior.

Robert Louis, 59, was aboard a boat with six other people to honor his father’s final wishes when the boat overturned around 6 p.m., police said.

A witness on shore told officials he saw the boat take a sharp turn, sending all seven passengers into the water.

When troopers arrived, they found that six of the boaters were rescued by a platoon boat that had been in the area. They are all currently being treated for hypothermia.

Unfortunately, officials could not find Louis immediately. It wasn’t until the following day that his body was recovered, FOX2 Detroit reported.

A friend of Louis’ said the local musician was the one who planned the trip to honor his father.
