OHIO: On July 1, police in Ohio responded to a 9-1-1 call claiming a man was in a hotel lobby speaking on the phone and claiming his allegiance to ISIS. The man is Ahmed Al Menhali. He is a businessman from the United Arab Emirates who flew to Cleveland for medical treatment.
Dressed in traditional white robes and head dress, turns out Al Menhali was not praising ISIS and the arrest was based on false information. The incident caused the UAE to advise its citizens not to wear national attire abroad because Al Menhali was “wrestled to the ground,” by police “and held as an Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) suspect,” Al-Jazeera says. The UAE has also “summoned a senior American diplomat” to protest what Al-Jazeera called the “abusive treatment” of al-Menhali.
