A New York City man who was caught on camera ripping down blue ribbons hung from trees and street poles in support of the police says he is receiving death threats.

Stephen Varvaro of Staten Island was walking along the street and ripping down the ribbons when a guy with a camera drove up next to him and asked, “What the hell are you doing?”  Varvaro responded, “All lives are not being persecuted right now! Black lives are!”

Once the video was posted on Facebook, local people recognized the man and began harassing him with calls and visits to his home.  Vavaro told a local newspaper, “I’m getting threats about it, and I don’t feel safe anymore.”

“I know what I did was wrong,” Varvarro said. “Tearing the ribbons down was the wrong thing to do. It was disrespectful.”
