Police are trying to determine what led a 37-year-old man to park his car on New York City’s Verrazano- Narrows Bridge, get out of the vehicle, and then immediately jump to his death on Sunday morning.
The man, who had a Connecticut drivers license and was driving a Mazda with New Jersey license plates, jumped from the Brooklyn-bound side of the bridge at approximately 8:30 a.m, according to police.
NYPD Harbor police were able to get to the man after he jumped and administer CPR until he could be taken to Richmond University Medical Center, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The apparent suicide took place just before the Five Borough Bike Tour, which was set to end after cyclists took the Verrazano – Narrows Bridge over to Staten Island.
An hour after the jumper was reported, Five Borough Bike Tour event organizers said they had no knowledge of the incident.
