SACRAMENTO – A man narrowly escaped death Monday, June 26, after he fell off his motorcycle, right in the middle of a busy California highway.
Motorists who witnessed the incident reported the man merged onto the I-80 headed eastbound and his bike appeared to shake and wobble as he rode, especially as he approached higher speeds.
One witness who filmed the incident, Erica Bylett, claims the motorcyclist had only one hand on the handlebars as the bike struggled to stabilize.
“We paced him for 5-10 miles after watching him ‘almost’ lose control (about 5 or 6 times), so I got my phone out, thinking ‘it’s only a matter of time before he crashes’ and I wanted the video as evidence in case anyone else got hurt.”
Moments after Bylett retrieved her phone to capture it on video, the man’s bike began to sway violently before spinning out of control and throwing him from his bike.
The witnesses immediately called 911 and pulled their car to the side of the road to help the man to safety.
When posting the video to her personal Facebook page, Bylett wrote, “I’m still shaking!! This guy merged onto the freeway with his bike shaking. We followed him for 5-10 miles. Everytime his bike would hit high speeds it would shake. And I’m thinking “this guy is going to crash” so unfortunately he did, but thank god he didn’t get ran over and no one else got hurt!!”
The man was possibly making the bike shake on purpose. Bylett explained, “I couldn’t believe he kept trying to go super fast. At times he only had one hand on his bike handles while it shook.”
She later posted the video on YouTube, saying the unnamed man sustained injuries and severe road rash to his face, nose, and arms, but he was able to walk by himself to the shoulder of the road, albeit very shook up after the terrifying event unfolded.
“His face was really mashed up (his nose looked broken) and arms covered in blood. Crazy road rash!!! I still wonder how he’s doing,” Hoff wrote in the caption of the video.
Her video has gone viral in less than a week, with over 8 million view on Facebook and over 600,000 views on YouTube. (Permission was granted to DennisMichaelLynch.com by video owner for usage of this video.)
