Are there really no Americans willing to work for the Trump Organization’s resorts in Florida? According to President Trump, “getting help in Palm Beach during the season is almost impossible.” It must be. In order to qualify for H-2B classification, employers must establish that there are not enough American workers able or willing to fill the temporary positions.
The H-2B visa is a nonimmigrant program, which permits employers to hire foreign workers to come temporarily to the United States and perform temporary, nonagricultural services or labor on a one-time, seasonal, peak-load or intermittent basis.
Records posted by the Labor Department show that Trump’s company is seeking 35 waiters and waitresses to work at Mar-a-Lago, as well as 20 cooks and 15 maids. There’s also a listing posted for six cooks at the Trump National Golf Club in Jupiter. The jobs pay anywhere from $10.33 to $20.01 per hour and run from Oct. 1 to May 31.
On Monday, the Trump administration moved to expand the H-2B program, saying it would offer an additional 15,000 visas because not enough American workers are willing or able to fill the country’s employment needs for the rest of the 2017 fiscal year.
The requests for H-2B visas were filed on Thursday and have been made public on the Department of Labor’s website.
Ironically, the visa requests came at the same time the White House is touting “Made in America Week,” which is all about highlighting American-made products and bringing jobs back to the country.
Trump signed an executive order in April promoting his “Buy American, Hire American” agenda, but it looks as if it’s become a matter of “do as I say, not as I do.”
Trump haters on Twitter were out in full-force on this one, spurred on by the mainstream media, no doubt:
Trumpers okay with this?
It's like the Christie family outing on the closed NJ public beach.
