‘March for Truth’ demands independent probe into Trump-Russia

Thousands of protesters in nearly 130 U.S. cities took to the streets Saturday for the “March for Truth,” calling for an independent investigation into whether President Trump and his aides colluded with Russia during the presidential election.

Demonstrators stormed the streets of New York, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Boston, and San Francisco, as well as several smaller cities across the country. Other cities around the world, including London, Brussels, and Munich, also are organizing their own protests in solidarity.

The organizers for the “March for Truth” say on their website:

“We are a coalition of grassroots organizers and organizations that are united in our demand for an impartial investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election and ties to Donald Trump and his associates.”

Organizers also issued the following demands:

  • An independent commission must be established and Congressional investigations should be properly resourced and pursued free of partisan interests.
  • As much information should be made available to the public as possible.
  • Congress should require Donald Trump to release his tax returns to clarify his business interests and obligations to any foreign entity;
  • If crimes were committed or if collusion is discovered, it must be prosecuted.

The New York rally began at 9.00 a.m. Eastern at Foley Square with protesters marching along Broadway. Some familiar and famous faces were in attendance, including outspoken Trump-critic Rosie O’Donnell.

The “March for Truth” protests come ahead of testimony by former FBI Director James Comey to the Senate Intelligence Committee scheduled for Thursday, June 8 at 10 a.m. Eastern, where the topic of discussion will focus on “Russian Federation efforts to interfere in the 2016 elections,” and whether or not Comey’s allegations that Trump pressured him to drop the investigation into the Trump campaign bears any connection to Russian interference, says the report.
