Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) has many puzzled lately, such as his befuddling statements during the Comey testimony last week. McCain used to actively criticize former president Barack Obama’s foreign policy decisions, but now he is saying that American leadership under Obama was stronger than it is now under President Trump.
When asked by reporters on Sunday what kind of “message” was sent to the U.K. last week when Trump publicly criticized London’s mayor just hours after a terrorist attack left eight people dead and many more wounded, McCain answered, “What do you think the message is? The message is that America doesn’t want to lead.”
He further noted, “They are not sure of American leadership, whether it be in Siberia or whether it be in Antarctica.”
McCain’s negative comments were used to slam the President in a recent report published in The Guardian in which he was asked if America’s standing on the global stage was better under Barack Obama. According to the report, “McCain, a fervent critic of the previous administration’s foreign policy, responded: ‘As far as American leadership is concerned, yes.'”
After hearing London Mayor Sadiq Khan say that Londoners should not be alarmed by the increased police presence following the attack, President Trump went on the attack himself, shocked that the mayor was apparently downplaying the danger terrorists obviously continue to pose in England. Khan claims he took the statement out of context.
“Pathetic excuse by London Mayor Sadiq Khan who had to think fast on his ‘no reason to be alarmed’ statement,” Trump tweeted last week. That comment drew outrage from not only Khan, but from everyone who was looking for an excuse to be angry at Trump. Khan also suggested that Trump be uninvited back to his country for a scheduled event; which would essentially place Trump ahead of the terrorists on the list of people not allowed in the U.K.
Pathetic excuse by London Mayor Sadiq Khan who had to think fast on his "no reason to be alarmed" statement. MSM is working hard to sell it!
