According to Whoopi Goldberg, the liberal-leaning co-host of ABC’s “The View,” no American agrees with President Donald J. Trump’s trust in Russian President Vladimir Putin. Co-hosts Goldberg and Meghan McCain criticized the president for saying that the Russian president “believes” it when he says the country did not meddle in the 2016 presidential election (video below).

McCain, daughter of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said,  “It is very, very important that we don’t get desensitized to how intense this is.”

She went on to sensationalize the president’s comments, saying his trust of Putin is dangerous.

McCain said: “Our president of the United States of America is saying we can’t trust our intelligence community but we can trust a KGB murderous dictator who is aiding and abetting the largest refugee crisis since World War II, the gassing of innocent children in Syria right now, while trying to annex the Baltic states, annexing Crimea, everything going on in the Ukraine. He’s dedicated to the destruction of the west, and we’re watching this play out in real time.”

She further states that Putin wants Americans to doubt the U.S. intelligence community.

“Putin has bloodlust for the glory days of the U.S.S.R.,” she stated. “He wants to become a superpower again.”

She also said that with “everything going on with the Mueller investigation,” she doesn’t understand why the president made the statements, and expressed embarrassment over the GOP leadership’s response to the president’s words, as they did not show support for her father’s response or issue one similar to it.

Senator McCain had said, “There’s nothing ‘America First’ about taking the word of [a] KGB colonel over [the] U.S. intelligence community.”

Goldberg, who was happy to agree with the Republican cast member on this topic, said, “We don’t always agree politically. But there’s not a person—I don’t care who you voted for, I don’t care what your political standing is—there is no one in this country who can stand up and say ‘I agree with anything that is happening.’”

Goldberg continued, “I don’t care if you voted for him. You thought he was going to do this or that. You can’t be an American citizen who believes in our democracy and side with that.”

In his comments, President Trump said, “Putin said he absolutely did not meddle in our election. He did not do what they are saying he did.”

When reporters asked him if he believed Putin, Trump responded, “Look, I can’t stand there and argue with him. I would rather have him get out of Syria, to be honest with you. I would rather … get to work with him [in] Ukraine.”

“Every time he sees me he says, ‘I didn’t do that,’ and I really believe that when he tells me that, he means it,” Trump said. “I think he is very insulted by it, which is not a good thing for our country.”

Later, Trump clarified his earlier remarks, saying, “What I said is that I believe [Putin] believes that.”

“As to whether I believe it or not, I’m with our agencies, especially as currently constituted with their leadership.  I believe in our intel agencies, our intelligence agencies,” Trump added

Trump had referred to former CIA director John Brennan and former director of national intelligence James R. Clapper Jr. as “political hacks” in earlier statements.

On Sunday, Brennan said he considers Trump’s characterization of him a “badge of honor.”

In April, 57 percent of Americans applauded President Trump after he took military actions against Syria, in response to a gas attack on civilians. Russia did not agree with the U.S. action.
