McCain said he believes Trump could be a capable leader.
Although he believes that his chances of re-election in Arizona are in danger with Trump as the nominee, Senator John McCain has broken ranks with some of his fellow lawmakers who are withholding their endorsement of Trump, and is trying to talk some sense into the GOP establishment.
“You have to listen to people that have chosen the nominee of our Republican Party,” McCain said on CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday. “I think it would be foolish to ignore them.”
“You have to draw the conclusion that there is some distance, if not a disconnect, between party leaders and members of Congress and the many voters who have selected Donald Trump to be the nominee of the party,” McCain said.
Sounding weary and defeated, he called for Trump to express appreciation of veterans, which Trump as repeatedly done already. McCain also refused to speak against illegal immigration, instead saying there is a Hispanic vote “that I have to continue my good relationship with.” He said we need to “understand the importance of the Hispanic vote in America.”
McCain stated a Hillary Clinton presidency will cause the economy to continue to stumble along. “Tell me one accomplishment that she can point to as Secretary of State, except that she flew more miles than any other Secretary of State in history.”
