McMaster Offers Reassurances To National Security Staff

During a Thursday staff meeting, the newly appointed White House National Security Adviser, Army Lt. Gen. H. R. McMaster, reassured NSA staffers that he does not plan to dismantle the team that former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn put in place, reports the Washington Free Beacon.

White House national security staff told reporters that McMaster offered “reassuring” words and laid out a plan to push back against the false narrative run by liberal media outlets surrounding Flynn’s sudden departure from his post, as well as his plans to navigate away from Obama’s former foreign policy.

“It’s no secret we’ve had a few more all-hands meetings than we intended in our first month—but General McMaster used this event to both reassure the NSC staff and to give us the tools to continue the mission,” said one senior White House National Security Council official regarding the internal staff meeting.

McMaster explicitly told all in attendance that he has zero intentions of changing Trump’s foreign policy team or removing those who are believed to have loyalty to Flynn, contrary to what the New York Times has recently reported, stirring up false claims about a massive shake-up of Trump’s national security team.

“He made it clear he wasn’t there to grind a political axe or engage in a witch hunt,” said the official. “He was there to provide leadership, including direction on how to think about the task in front of us.”

The national security staff was also said to be “thrilled” that he recommended a comprehensive reading list for military professionals in an effort to help current White House officials understand his own views on foreign policy.

White House officials described the reading list to reporters as “pleasantly surprising” and “a vast departure from the former Obama administration’s own national security vision.”

Books included in McMaster’s recommended reading list were President Trump’s book, “The Art of the Deal,” and his own book, “Dereliction of Duty.”

The source added that “McMaster is advocating a wholesale reversal from the Obama administration’s vision,” reports Free Beacon.
