“The potential of the United Nations is unlimited,” President Trump said as he delivered a toast at a United Nations luncheon Tuesday.
“Let’s give this as a toast to the great, great potential of the United Nations,” he said, as he lifted his wine glass and appeared to take a sip from the glass, before handing it over to an aide.
Reporters at the event all noted what an unusual thing it was, to see President Trump with a wine glass, or appearing to drink wine, as he has stated multiple times that he doesn’t drink.
Upon closer examination of the video, it actually appears that Trump only pretended to sip from the glass.
However, the NY Daily News reported that he was also seen taking a sip from his glass while seated at the table after the toast.
President Trump has stated that he never drinks alcoholic beverages, due to his older brother Freddy’s struggle with alcoholism, which resulted in his death in 1981 when he was only 43 years old.
In a “60 Minutes” interview in 2015, Trump said of Freddy, “He would tell me constantly, ‘Don’t drink.’ And I’ve never had a drink. I own the largest winery on the East Coast and yet I don’t drink.”
Trump, who doesn’t drink is addressing UN lunch, giving a toast with a glass of red wine in his hand. Took a sip.

Seems odd that Trump would say during a lunchtime toast that the U.S. (not the UN) “can do better.” Might be a subtle gaffe. pic.twitter.com/dkJdZC2zKT
