Alimiha Seiti just celebrated a triple digit birthday, and the 131-year old woman was labeled China’s oldest person. Reportedly, Seiti was born on June 15, 1886, the same year that Grover Cleveland dedicated the Statue of Liberty in the New York Harbor.
At least 56 of Seiti’s descendants attended a birthday celebration in her honor Sunday. Seiti, who enjoys company and talking to people, says her days often include a visit with someone. She also reports she often sings when she’s happy.
While the Gerontological Society of China recognizes Seiti as the country’s oldest person, Carrying the Flag World Records out of London says she’s the oldest person in the world.
According to Guinness World Records, which has its own method of determining age, Jeanne Calment was the world’s oldest person ever.
Calment, a French citizen born the year before Alexander Graham Bell patented the telephone, died in 1997 at age 122. Calament was the oldest person whose age had been verified by official documents.
