Melania Sues for $150 Million

According to The Hill, First Lady Melanie Trump has refiled a $150 million lawsuit against the Daily Mail and a publisher with the company.

Back in September, political blogger Webster Griffin Tarpley wrote an article claiming Melania Trump had worked as an escort in the 1990s which was published in the Daily Mail.

The Hill reports Melania had previously filed a libel lawsuit in Maryland, where Daily Mail’s publishing company is located; Tarpley was also working there at the time.

A judge dismissed that case, saying the lawsuit should not have been filed in Maryland because Mail Media Inc.’s corporate offices are located in New York.

It is reported, the first lady’s lawsuit against Daily Mail will now be filed in New York, while the lawsuit against Tarpley will be filed in Maryland.

Melania is seeking compensatory and punitive damages of at least $150 million.

Fox News reports that the original filing states Mrs. Trump “had the unique, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, as an extremely famous and well-known person, as well as a former professional model, brand spokesperson and successful businesswoman, to launch a broad-based commercial brand in multiple product categories, each of which could have garnered multi-million dollar business relationships for a multi-year term during which Plaintiff is one of the most photographed women in the world.”
