Menacing prank scares neighborhood residents

A 911 caller reported that a man wearing a clown mask and hoodie was spotted in a neighborhood in Hollis, Maine on Tuesday.  Concerned residents reported he was holding a machete, according to state police.

The first call was received around 6 p.m., according to State Trooper Adam Schmidt. The eerily attired man was walking down the road, wearing the black hooded sweatshirt, the mask, and holding the weapon. According to the initial reports, he was hiding in the woods.

State police entered the woods, but weren’t able to nab man until he came out, at around 7 p.m.

The clown turned out to be Corey Berry, 31, a Hollis resident. He was taken into custody and charged with criminal threatening, then transported to York County Jail where he posted a $200 bail.

The very intoxicated Berry has an amputated arm, to which he had taped the machete.

Berry reportedly called the incident a “prank,” and was cooperative with police.
