A brief scare aboard Air Force One occurred on Sunday when a C-17 military plane got too close to the president’s aircraft prior to landing.
Reportedly, the C-17 was coming from the north and suddenly veered to the right of Air Force One.
The Daily Mail reports that most aircraft keep a distance of at least 300 meters vertically or 4.8 kilometers horizontally away from other aircraft.
“I would say, beyond all doubt, that this is a strange occurrence,” said a retired U.S. Air Force colonel who specializes in geospatial intelligence.
Although it was an unusual occurrence, apparently, no one aboard the aircraft felt it was a threat. There has still been no explanation as to why the C-17 had flown so close to the president’s plane.
Trump was aboard the plane on his way home from Mar-a-Lago, where he met with Chinese President Xi Jinping, at the time.
