Missouri Allows ‘Jihad 1” License Plate

The owners are tracked down, who admit their 14-year-old son is named ‘Jihad’ as well!

St. Louis news station KMOV-4 received an email from a viewer, with this photo of a license plate seen in the St. Louis area.   The viewer said he found it insulting that the state of Missouri had approved a personalized license plate with the word “Jihad”.

The news station researched the policies for granting or denying personalized license plates, and was told by a Department of Revenue representative that they had no legal authority to deny the word.  However, KMOV-4 discovered that Missouri did reject another plate application with the word “J1HAD” in 2009.

The owner of the vehicle was contacted, and they explained that the license plate is after their 14-year-old son, whose name is “Jihad”.

A director of the St. Louis chapter of CAIR – a group known to have terrorist connections – said, “Jihad” is very common, and it doesn’t mean Holy War – it means someone who is struggling.   “So when you name your kid Jihad, it means someone who is going to struggle to be better.”

The CAIR director said the people who are offended by the term are merely confused.
