Former GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney has weighed in on the allegations that were published Thursday evening against former Alabama Judge Roy Moore, saying he believes the allegations and Moore is unfit for office.
According to an exclusive report by The Washington Post, a woman identified as Leigh Corfman has come forward to report that Moore sexually molested her in 1979, when she was 14 years old and he was a 32-year-old assistant district attorney.
Three other women interviewed for the report have also stated that Moore made improper advances towards them when they were teenagers, during the same time period.
Moore, now a Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate, has been asked by many lawmakers to withdraw from the Senate race if the allegations are true.
Romney has come down even harder in his response.
“Innocent until proven guilty is for criminal convictions, not elections. I believe Leigh Corfman. Her account is too serious to ignore. Moore is unfit for office and should step aside,” Romney said in a Twitter post on Friday morning.
Moore has denied the allegations, calling the story “intentional defamation” and “fake news.”

On the other hand, prominent evangelist Jerry Falwell Jr. has come out in support of Moore, saying he doesn’t believe the claims against the judge are true.
“And I believe the judge is telling the truth,” Falwell stated. “I don’t think this kind of story will change support for him among Christians since he has categorically denied it. Most will see it as dirty politics.”
