Muslims of Yemeni descent closed their bodegas in New York City and prayed in the streets to protest the recent travel ban.
Demonstrators shouted “USA” and “Allahu Akbar” throughout the protest.
Yemen was one of the countries included in Barack Obama’s “countries of concern” list in regards to terrorism.
President Donald Trump used this list to help him draft his most recent executive order temporarily banning immigrants from Iran, Iraq, Syria, Somalia, Sudan, Libya. and Yemen until the U.S. vetting system is more reliable and secure.
But, many have been protesting the order, claiming it is an unfair ban on Muslims, despite the fact that many Muslim-dominant countries were not included in the ban.
According to U.K. news outlet Express, a Facebook page was set up for the protest and states, “This shutdown of grocery stores and bodegas will be a public show of the vital role these grocers and their families play in New York’s economic and social fabric.”
