A new survey that finds “slightly more than half of Republicans say they would support postponing the 2020 presidential election if President Trump proposed it to make sure only eligible American citizens can vote,” Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough took to Twitter to express his outrage.

Taken by The Washington Post, the poll showed that 52 percent of Republicans said they would support a postponement of the next election if Trump called for it, and if Trump and congressional Republicans proposed postponing the election to ensure only eligible citizens could vote, support from Republicans rises to 56 percent.

This news made Scarborough flip out. “If you believe this, hide your face in shame. Your values are objectively un-American. Read the US Constitution and repent,” he tweeted on Thursday.

Prior to that tweet, the MSNBC host had this to say about Republicans: “The party of Reagan is sick and apparently beyond repair,” calling the poll “a frightening snapshot.”

Scarborough announced his departure from the GOP in July on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” A former Florida Republican representative, Scarborough claimed that he will become an Independent, and said, “You have to ask yourself, what, in fact, is the Republican Party willing to do? How far are they willing to go? How much of this country and their values are they willing to sell out?”

The Constitution does not grant the president the authority to postpone elections; that would be up to Congress.

According to The Washington Post, “The survey interviewed a sample of 1,325 Americans from June 5 through 20. Respondents were recruited from the Qualtrics online panel who had previously reported identifying with or leaning toward one of the two major parties. We focus on the 650 respondents who identify with or lean toward the Republican Party. The sample has been weighted to match the population in terms of sex, age, race and education.”

The poll also found that 68 percent of Republicans believe illegal immigrants voted in the 2016 election, while 73 percent said, “Voter fraud happens somewhat or very often.”
