Mother Arrested After Leaving Toddler In Snow Covered Car Overnight

A 2-year-old child is recovering after his mother left him in 23 degree weather.

According to a tweet sent out by the Thornton Police, 26-year-old Nicole Carmon, was arrested for Felony Child Abuse for leaving the young child inside a snow covered “vehicle for an undetermined time frame.”

The Denver Post reported that Carmon told police she was in an accident on Friday night. She could not remember details of the accident, including where the accident had occurred or where her vehicle was.

After reporting to police that her son was missing, a search for him ensued at approximately 10:40 am on Saturday morning. Authorities located the young boy at noon that day in a parking lot inside of Carmon’s snow covered car.

The boy was rushed to the hospital as he was suffering from frostbite and hypothermia from his long overnight stay in the frigid cold conditions.

Matt Barnes, a spokesperson for the police department said, “The car was blanketed with snow. There was no way of seeing what was inside.”

“Police are investigating the circumstances that led up to the child being left alone inside the vehicle and how long the child was left alone,” he said.

Barnes also told reporters that there was no sign that the vehicle was in an accident.
