Mother drives drunk, flips car through air with baby inside (Video)

Shocking dashcam video shows a UK woman driving under the influence with her 19-month-old son in the car. When she comes to a sharp turn, the car hits a median and launches 50 metres up the road.

According to CTV News, 32-year old Tania Chikwature of Coventry is now behind bars after the incident that occurred on December 12th.

The truck diver whose vehicle caught the accident on camera said he did not think anyone could survive that type of crash.

“I could see a car on the wrong side of the double white lines overtaking me at speed and I thought, ‘What are you doing?’” he said in a statement to police. “The car was completely out of control and went straight into the roundabout, straight on, where it launched into the air. I remember thinking as it went in the air, ‘They’re not going to make it.’”

He then described the shocking scene following the accident.

“There was a man pulling a young child from the wreckage, the child was crying and was very shocked,” the truck driver told police. “The car was totally destroyed and on its roof, the only other occupant was crumpled with her feet in the driver’s side and her body leaning back between the two front seats.”

Other than being shaken and shocked, the toddler was reportedly unhurt and was freed from the car by a passing motorist. Chikwature was removed from the wreckage by firefighters.

Police reported that a bottle of vodka was found in the vehicle, but Chikwature refused to give a breath sample. Later, blood samples from the hospital revealed she was nearly double the legal limit. She admitted she had been drinking vodka from 9:00 p.m. until 1:00 a.m. the night before, but said she “didn’t feel drunk.”

“At no point did she ask after the welfare of the child or refer to him,” said the witness.  “In the 32 years I have been driving, this is one of the most dangerous pieces of driving I have ever witnessed. I see stuff on the road every day, but nothing this bad.”

Chikwatures pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, and drinking and driving at a hearing in March, and was sentenced Monday to 26 weeks in jail for dangerous driving, plus 12 weeks for drinking and driving. The sentences are to be served concurrently.

She has also been banned from driving for three years, and has to pay a $190 fine.
