MARYLAND — According to authorities, a 4-year-old girl has died as a result of her mother kicking her in the stomach because she did not brush her teeth.

The mother is shown in the photo above. She is Iris Hernandez-Rivas, 20, and she called 911 to tell police she found her daughter Nohely Alexandra not breathing in their home. The mother told police that her daughter went into the bathroom to take a shower at 11am. Then, 15 minutes later, she found Nohely Alexandra lying face down in the bathtub. The mother waited until noon to call police.

Upon arriving at the ER, doctors saw that Nohely Alexandra had multiple bruises and had suffered massive head trauma. Her injuries were so severe that she died at the hospital.

The next day, Hernandez-Rivas finally told the truth — admitting she kicked her daughter in the stomach because the 4-year-old had not brushed her teeth. According to the mother, the kick to Nohely Alexandra made her fall backwards into the wall. That’s when she hit her head.

Hernandez-Rivas told police the girl suffered the bruises when she hit her with a belt several days earlier.

According to FOX 5 DC, Hernandez-Rivas is currently charged with first-degree child abuse and first-degree assault. Police are waiting on a ruling by the medical examiner on the child’s official cause of death before determining if she will also face more serious charges.
