On Saturday, Fox News ran the following headline: “Trump transition lawyer: Mueller improperly obtained documents in Russia probe.”
The article goes on to explain that a lawyer for the Trump presidential transition team is accusing Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s office of inappropriately obtaining transition documents as part of its Russia probe, including confidential attorney-client communications, privileged communications and thousands of emails without their knowledge.
FOX NEWS: “In a letter obtained by Fox News and sent to House and Senate committees on Saturday, the transition team’s attorney alleges “unlawful conduct” by the career staff at the General Services Administration in handing over transition documents to the special counsel’s office.
The transition legal team argues the GSA “did not own or control the records in question” and the release of documents could be a violation of the 4th Amendment – which protects against unreasonable searches and seizures.
Kory Langhofer, the counsel to Trump for America, wrote in Saturday’s letter that the GSA handed over “tens of thousands of emails” to Mueller’s probe without “any notice” to the transition.”
Meanwhile, over at the Associated Press, they too ran the same report Saturday but do not lead with the “improperly” part of the story. The AP wrote: “Special counsel obtains thousands of Trump transition emails.”
AP — “Special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian contacts with President Donald Trump’s campaign has gained access to thousands of emails sent and received by Trump officials before the start of his administration, according to several people familiar with Trump’s transition organization.
But the investigators did not directly request the records from Trump’s still-existing transition group, Trump for America, and instead obtained them from a separate federal agency that stored the material, according to those familiar with the Trump transition organization.”
“The AP headline reflects an elite media organization struggling to cover the collusion case in a way that best serves its readership. Either way, Mueller’s document grab is his way of trying to distract America from focusing on the two FBI agents [Peter Strzok and Lisa Page] who tried taking down the Trump campaign in 2016,” said Dennis Michael Lynch when asked to comment on this story. “No matter how hard Mueller tries to create a narrative that puts Trump in the guilty chair, fact is the deep state and the dishonest people who control the media are trying to cover up for Obama and Clinton.”
According to Fox News, Langhofer said they discovered the “unauthorized disclosures” by the GSA on December 12th and 13th and raised concerns with the special counsel’s office.
Langhover said the special counsel’s office also received laptops, cell phones and at least one iPad from the GSA.
Trump for America is the nonprofit organization that facilitated the transition between former President Barack Obama to President Trump.
The GSA, an agency of the United States government, provided the transition team with office space and hosted its email servers.
