A 21-year-old Gambian migrant attempted to remove the cross from a Christmas tree in the Italian city of Milan Christmas Day.
The tree, located at the “Piazza Duca D’Aosta,” is in front of the city’s Central Station. Police reacted quickly and arrested the African man during the attempted theft.
The suspect was identified, though his name has not been released, and processed at the police station where he will be charged with causing aggravated damage.
According to Italian media, the migrant wanted to remove and deface the cross because for him, “it was not good.” Despite the brazen attempt, the tree is still in good condition with the cross still on top of it.
Earlier this month, an Italian town removed a Christmas tree from its town hall because it “didn’t want to hurt the feelings” of a visiting Muslim association.
