NBA center Willie Reed, who plays for the Los Angeles Clippers, was jailed in Miami, Florida on Sunday following allegations that he physically assaulted his wife.
According to police, Willie Reed allegedly dragged his wife, Jasmine Reed, across the apartment, wrestling with her for a purse. He also reportedly pulled her hair and grabbed her by the wrist during an argument Saturday night.
Miami police say the argument began when Jasmine told him she wanted a divorce. She told police that Willie knocked her to the ground, trying to gain control of her purse. He proceeded to drag her around the apartment by the purse strap until it broke, according to the report.
Jasmine says she went to the lobby of the apartment building, shirt torn, to notify the concierge. She then returned to collect her two children. Upon trying to leave with the children, she told police Willie grabbed her by the hair and tried to take her youngest child, who she was carrying in her arms.
According to the report, they both physically struggled with each other in front of the children. Willie, who stands 6-foot-10 and weighs a hefty 220 pounds, grabbed Jasmine’s left wrist, and then twisted her arm to force her to the ground. She retaliated by hitting him over the head with a glass candle.
Willie denies the allegations of physical abuse on his part. He told police he never put his hands on his wife, although he admits that he held her shirt and purse.
According to the police report, Willie also told officers he did touch his wife as she was getting on the elevator. In other words, he claims his wife is being dishonest.
According to the report, Jasmine had red marks on her left wrist, right biceps, back and chest.
Willie Reed was booked on Sunday morning on a misdemeanor battery charge. He then posted a $1,500 cash bond on Sunday afternoon, according to the Miami Herald.
“Willie will continue to cooperate with the authorities and with the league so that they have all of the facts regarding this misdemeanor allegation,” said his defense lawyer, David O. Markus.
According to Brad Turner, an LA Times Clips beat reporter, the Clippers said: “We are aware of the situation in Miami regarding Willie Reed, and are working to determine the facts around the situation.”

Willie Reed, who was suspended from college in 2010 for his role in a sexual assault incident, is the second Clippers player to be arrested in the last 17 months. In March 2016, forward Branden Dawson was arrested in Los Angeles on suspicion of spousal abuse.
Willie was with the Miami Heat last season. This season, the 27-year-old center signed a $1.5 million, one-year contract with the Clippers.
Willie Reed Jr. (born May 16, 1990) is an American professional basketball player for the Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for Saint Louis University.
