Nephew of U.S. Senator Slain in Brutal Murder

Police are searching for the motive, and the killer, of a Washington man in Spokane County who was the victim of a horrific murder early Tuesday morning.

Bob Tester, Jr., 35, was originally from Montana, and was the nephew of Democratic Senator Jon Tester of Montana.  Authorities are saying this was no random act of violence.

According to reports, Tester was a single father of an 8-year-old daughter.   The little girl was reportedly sleeping in bed with her father when she was awakened by sounds of someone attacking her dad, saying it was a man who had a sword and a knife.

Court documents say “the man told her to stay in bed because he was going to kill her dad.”

The child called her grandmother, who then called 911.

Spokane County Sheriff’s deputies found Tester dead in his living room in a pool of blood, with blood also found throughout the home.  An ax was found near the body with bloodstains on it.

Also found near the body were bags of what appeared to be marijuana.  Tester grew marijuana and sold it to medical marijuana dispensaries, according to the grandmother.

A statement released Thursday from the Medical Examiner’s Office said the cause of death was “chop wounds and stab wounds and blunt injuries.”

In an indication that something was definitely wrong, Tester posted a message on his Facebook page on August 25, saying, “There’s gonna be some hard days ahead of us, but I want you all to know that I was victimized by someone close to me…”

Spokane County Sheriff’s Office asked for the public’s assistance in a press release:

Spokane County Major Crime Detectives, along with the Spokane County Forensics Unit, were called to conduct the investigation and process the scene for evidence. With the initial information received, investigators do not believe this was a random act of violence. Anyone with any information regarding this investigation is urged to call Crime Check at 509-456-2233.
