On Friday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the changes the Trump administration is making toward foreign policy are “appreciated around the world and in our region.”
In a joint press appearance with Defense Secretary James Mattis, Netanyahu stated Israel welcomed and “appreciated” the more aggressive foreign policy being taken by the United States under Trump.
Addressing Sec. Mattis, Netanyahu said, “We noted the very clear and forthright words, Mr. Secretary, that you had to say about Iran. This follows very strong and forthright words on the part of President Trump, and very forthright deeds against the use of chemical weapons by Iran’s proxy, Syria.”
In a different appearance on Friday, Mattis stated there is “no doubt” that Syria still possesses chemical weapons, even following Trump’s decision to bomb the country after it allegedly used chemical weapons on its own citizens.
The strike against Syria was viewed positively and as long-overdue by many in the U.S. and across the globe.
Netanyahu said of the strike, “This has been appreciated around the world and in our region. I think this is welcome change, a strategic change of American leadership and American policy.”
