Netflix announces decision on ‘House of Cards’ after star accused of sexual misconduct

Netflix series “House of Cards” is folding up, with its 6th and final season premiering in 2018, as an allegation of sexual misconduct by star Kevin Spacey has been revealed.

58-year old Spacey, who plays a Democratic politician named Frank Underwood on the Emmy Award-winning political drama, responded to sexual harassment allegations by “Rent” actor Anthony Rapp on Monday. The allegations stem from an encounter thirty years ago, and include charges of pedophilia as Rapp was only 14 at the time.

According to Rapp, Spacey picked him up “like a groom picks up the bride over the threshold. But I don’t, like, squirm away initially, because I’m like, ‘What’s going on?’ And then he lays down on top of me.”

In a statement posted on Twitter, Spacey said he didn’t remember the alleged sexual assault, and that he owed Rapp “the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior.”

In a joint statement, Netflix and TV studio Media Rights Capital said that they are “deeply troubled by last night’s news concerning Kevin Spacey.” They said, “executives from both of our companies arrived in Baltimore this afternoon to meet with our cast and crew to ensure that they continue to feel safe and supported. As previously scheduled, Kevin Spacey is not working on set at this time.”

“House of Cards” creator and former showrunner Beau Willimon said Rapp’s allegation against Spacey is “deeply troubling,” writing in a Twitter post that he’d never witnessed or been made aware of inappropriate behavior by the actor, but that he was taking Rapp’s allegations “seriously.”

In his Twitter post, Spacey announced that he is bisexual and has now decided to “live as a gay man.”
