A new missile developed by South Korea could reportedly kill North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un in just 15 minutes, according to Seoul’s Defense Ministry chiefs.
Manufactured by Germany’s Taurus Systems, the missile has a maximum range of 500 kilometers (310 miles).
Seoul stepped up its ability to fight back against North Korea during its first live fire drill for an advanced air-launched cruise missile this week.
South Korea’s stealth missile can avoid radar detection as it speeds towards its target, according to defense leaders, who say the Taurus systems can bomb key nuclear sites in North Korea in just 15 minutes.
This puts the Communist dictator’s life at risk, because the tyrannical leader is known to have a penchant for visiting his country’s nuclear sites.
The drill comes amid mounting tensions between North and South Korea over Kim’s refusal to stop nuclear missile testing.
South Korea has accelerated its efforts to ramp up military capabilities in the face of a barrage of nuclear weapons tests by the North.
Kim’s regime was widely condemned after it conducted its sixth and most powerful nuclear test to date on Sep. 3.
Shortly after the latest nuke test, Seoul announced it had reached an agreement with Washington to remove the warhead weight limits on South Korean ballistic missiles, which, under a bilateral guideline, could be built for a maximum range of 800 kilometers (497 miles).
South Korea is also planning a “decapitation unit” that is specially trained to assassinate Kim Jong-un.
A pre-emptive strike against Pyongyang’s leadership would be difficult to undertake, but it’s widely seen as the most realistic of the limited military options Seoul has to deny a nuclear attack by its rival.
The North said its latest nuclear test was a detonation of a thermonuclear weapon built for its developmental intercontinental ballistic missiles that were flight tested twice in July.
