New French president channels ‘Roman God’ in his authority

U.S. President Donald Trump isn’t the only leader in a war with the media.

Newly elected French President Emmanuel Macron has created quite a stir over his recent actions, and Reuters reported that he said he wants to rule as a “Jupiterian” president – as a “remote, dignified figure, like the Roman god of gods, who weighs his rare pronouncements carefully.”

Just days earlier, Macron had failed to hold a traditional press conference, saying his thoughts are “too complex” for journalists.  His spokesman said Macron’s “complex thought process lends itself badly to the game of question-and-answer with journalists.”

The action drew outrage and mockery from the French press.

Tuesday, Macron got himself into more trouble, when he tweeted out a photo of himself being dropped onto a nuclear submarine from a helicopter, resulting in him being compared to James Bond.
