A new report released by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) revealed that the abortion rate in New York City has reached an all time high.
The report showed that in 2013, New York City reported 69,840 abortions and 116,777 registered births. This reflects an abortion rate equal to 60% of the birth rate. No other states abortion rates were higher than 30% of their birth rates.
2013 is notable as anti-abortion efforts were in full swing and included the trial and conviction of abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell. Regardless of the efforts, the numbers for this area are staggering.
In 2011, 138,370 abortions were performed in New York, representing a rate of 34.2 abortions per 1,000 women. The rate was 9% lower in 2011 than in 2008, when it was 37.7 per 1,000. Abortions in New York represented 13.1% of all abortions in the United States in 2011.
Since 1991, each year states reflected a decline in abortions as well as births. Overall the abortion rate is down in the United States by 5% and births are down by just under 1%. While overall numbers show an improvement, New York continues to reflect serious issues regarding abortions.
More shockingly, out of 69,840 abortions conducted in New York City, 1,752 abortions (or 2.5%), were late-term (post 21 weeks). This figure too overshadows all other cities as the highest number of late term abortions reported in the country.
As of 2016 New York does not have any major types of abortion restrictions. This includes waiting periods, required parental involvement or limitations on publicly funded abortions, which can often be found in other states.
The report, unfortunately, has garnered very little coverage from the media or liberal activists. Some are thinking this is due to the quiet release of this report over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
