U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley addressed her future political ambitions in a Thursday interview, asserting that she “can’t imagine” running for the White House.
Haley, the former governor of South Carolina said in the interview with CNN, “Everyone thinks that I’m ambitious, and everybody thinks I’m trying to run for something, and everybody thinks I want more. And the truth of it is … I am just passionate.”
“I can’t imagine running for the White House, I really can’t,” she contends, following her claims that she has no desire to become the secretary of state or a senator.
Haley said that President Trump gives her latitude to speak her mind at the United Nations, but she coordinates her message with the White House.
“He has given me a lot of leeway to just say what I think and interpret what he thinks,” Haley said, regarding Trump. “It is always coordinated with the White House. I would never go rogue because I’m very aware of who I work for.”
“I’m a strong voice, by nature,” Haley continued. “I’m sometimes a bull in a china shop. And, you know, he allows me to do that.”
She contends that her tough nature complements the measured and deliberate personality of Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. “You know, he’s very much an executive. He’s thoughtful in his approach and how he moves forward,” she said.
“I’m one that’s not afraid to say anything. You know, I’m not easily intimidated and so I can go out and say things. So, I think we actually complement each other very well.”
The two recently delivered divergent messages on the U.S.-Syria policy, with Haley insisting on “regime change” and Tillerson urging for targeting ISIS with military action in Syria.
