New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. explained via Twitter on Monday that his touchdown celebration, where he pretended to urinate in the Philadelphia Eagles end zone, was a response to President Trump calling players who kneel for the National Anthem “sons of b****es.”

When a CNN editor on Twitter questioned whether the move was in response to the president’s remarks on Sunday, Beckham responded by tweeting back, “If u seen that, I have to tip my hat to u for thinkin outside the box. #URRIGHTONPOINT impressed.”

The fourth-year rookie receiver was questioned after Sunday’s game regarding his strange conduct, but he demurred, dancing around the issue, and did not say specifically that his actions were in response to President Trump’s comments.

“I was in the end zone. I scored a touchdown,” Beckham said, according to NJ.com. “I’m a dog, so I acted like a dog. I don’t know if the rulebook said you can’t hike your leg. (The referee) said I peed on somebody, so I was trying to find the imaginary ghost that I peed on. But, I didn’t see him.”

Beckham scored two touchdowns in the game. On his second touchdown, Beckham raised his fist, which many players have been seen doing during the National Anthem.

The Giants lost the game in the final seconds, 27-24.

Beckham has stated that he wants to be the highest-paid receiver and player in the NFL, but after Sunday’s end zone performance, that’s not likely to happen.

“It’s like the elephant in the room,” Beckham said of his contract in a video for Uninterrupted. “And you know you don’t want to talk about it, but I’ve gotten to the point in my life where I’m like, ‘No, I’m going to, there’s no need to not talk about it.’ I believe that I will be, hopefully, not just the highest-paid receiver in the league, but the highest paid, period.”

Beckham currently has two years left on a rookie deal that will pay him $8.46 million in 2018. If Beckham wants to be the highest paid player in the NFL, that means getting a contract that will pay just over $25 million per year.
