A midtown church in New York City was terrorized last week when a man shouting “Allahu Akbar” vandalized it with a wrench, then threatened to return to “kill any Christians,” according to police sources.
Police say Noel Droni asked a homeless man who was sitting outside the church if he was a Christian. The man affirmed that he was. Droni then reached into his backpack and took out a red wrench, proceeding to smash the church’s glass door.
According to reports, after yelling “Allahu Akbar,” which is Arabic for “God is great,” Droni made additional threats of violence towards Christians. “I am going to blow up the church and come back and kill any Christians.”
Police were able to arrest Droni, who was charged with criminal mischief. He’s being held on $1,000 bail. Reportedly, he refused to answer questions. His lawyer, Russell Novack, is “confident in a satisfactory outcome,” but says he can’t discuss the case.
The church, an interdenominational house of worship on W. 51st St. called Time Square Church, has not commented on the incident.
